Research and Engagement Policy Officer – Maternity Cover
Part time – 3 days per week

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a human rights, feminist organisation led by and for Latin American migrant women in the UK. Our work is dedicated to supporting the immediate and long-term needs of Latin American migrant women exposed to violations of their fundamental human rights; facing violence against women and girls, exploitation or trafficking; enduring difficult living and working conditions in low paid jobs and facing barriers to social protection. Around 2,000 women use our services every year, benefitting from practical and emotional support, learning new skills and improving their own opportunities. We strive to provide essential tools for women to empower themselves in their pursuit of personal and social change.
The Research and Engagement Policy Officer will be responsible for supporting the development of LAWRS’ policy, advocacy, and campaigning work through research co-development with a group of migrant survivors of domestic abuse. This research will highlight the barriers experienced by migrant survivors in accessing healthcare and provide opportunities for co-production and participation in policy, advocacy and campaigning spaces for women facing severe disadvantage due to intersectional inequalities.

Policy Officer on Young Women and Girls

We are excited to open this call for a brand-new post at LAWRS! We are seeking a highly motivated young woman who wants to start her career in policy, advocacy and campaigning to join our team as Policy Officer on Young Women and Girls.
The Policy Officer will collaborate with the Policy Team and Sin Fronteras’ Young Women’s Advisory Board to advance LAWRS’ Step Up Migrant Women campaign for young migrant women and girls.
The Policy Officer for Young Women and Girls will have strong communication, advocacy skills in the area of young migrant women and girls, political judgement, and networking abilities. You must be dedicated to addressing inequality and violence against women and girls.
The main duties of this post include:
- To develop, plan and implement a policy, advocacy and campaign strategy on the needs of young migrant women and girls, based on the findings from the Young Women’s Advisory Board (YWAB) reports.
- To influence positive change at the local, London, and national levels in the focus areas of the campaign.
You will have an excellent command of English and Spanish and/or Portuguese.

Generalist Advice Caseworker (Portuguese Speaker)

LAWRS’ Generalist Advice service provides information, advice, casework, advocacy and support to Latin American migrant women in the areas of housing, welfare benefits, money, employment rights and immigration.
The Generalist Advice Caseworker will have an excellent command of English and Portuguese and will join the Generalist Advice Team and be responsible for undertaking a caseload of service users, providing free, confidential, one-to-one information, advice, casework and advocacy for Latin American women in the areas of housing, welfare benefits, money, employment rights and immigration, according to their expertise.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Advice Quality Standards.

Volunteer Counsellor/Psychotherapist
(Brazilian Portuguese-speaking)
One fixed day per week – 10.00 am – 5.00 pm
Fortnightly group clinical supervision (Monday: 2:00 – 3:30pm)
Minimum 8 months commitment
Location: Hybrid work
LAWRS’ Volunteer Counsellor/Psychotherapist will join our Counselling and Psychotherapy team, providing one-to-one short term therapy and clinical assessments as agreed with the line manager, to Latin American women whose mother tongue is Brazilian Portuguese; delivering group work activities and psycho-educational workshops to Latin American women; and dealing with internal and external referrals, working closely with other teams at LAWRS and external agencies.
We are looking for a passionate counsellor and/or psychotherapist to join our team of highly motivated volunteers to provide psychological support to Latin American women and gain experience working within the VAWG sector in a leading BAME organization.
